CMMG Mk3 DTR2: 6.5 Creedmoor vs the Moving Target Challenge

You asked for it. You got it. Viewers recommended that we test the CMMG Mk3 DTR2 against moving targets. In this challenge, five of us shot the precision semiautomatic rifle at a moving target from 200, 300, and 600 yards.

The CMMG Mk3 DR2 takes the AR-10 platform to new levels of long-range capability. It features a heavy 24" stainless barrel, a slim M-Lok handguard, custom receivers, a 2-pound Geissele SSA trigger, and Magpul furniture. This includes the Gen3 Magpul PRS buttstock, which I had a chance to review on the Savage Stealth Evolution. Factor in the 6.5 Creedmoor chambering, and you're looking at a rifle that, on paper, has the right formula for knocking down faraway targets on the hoof. In practice, the CMMG Mk3 DTR 2 is even better than I imagined. My Hornady BTHP handloads print .45 MOA groups with velocity SDs in the single digits. This translates into the ability to hit targets at any reasonable range, and some that are a bit unreasonable. So far we've managed to get on paper at 1,000 yards and 1 mile. I will release those videos soon.

In this challenge, we sacrificed one or two guys at a time to walk around in the pit at Red Castle Gun Club with a target over their heads. We started at 200 yards, backed up to 300 yards, and ended at 600 yards. Even when we missed, the challenge was a lot of fun.

I outfitted the CMMG with a Bushnell HDMR-II rifle scope (previously reviewed) and the brand-new UTG Recon Flex bipod (review on the way). Both worked brilliantly in this test.
