Captain Carlsen and the Flying Enterprise

Despite heroic efforts, Captain Carlsen lost his ship at sea after a heavy storm in 1952, tragically only 40 miles from a safe harbor....but the event became almost legendary, as he managed the disaster with the loss of only one man. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a medal and a ticker-tape parade in New York City. These views are from a newsreel made at the time by the now-defunct Castle Films, on silent film for the home movie market.
