Novel coronavirus cases are increasing despite India being under lockdown. The country has had 21,393 cases positive to the novel coronavirus. Already, 681 people have died in India in the COVID-19 pandemic. Maharashtra is the worst hit state with 5,652 cases and 269 deaths

Followed by:

Gujarat - 2,407 cases and 103 deaths
Delhi – 2,248 cases and 48 deaths
Rajasthan – 1,890 cases and 27 deaths

Punjab has the highest mortality rate even though it has only about 5% (251 cases) of Maharashtra’s cases (* Excluding states with fewer than 20 cases). Jharkhand follows with a 6.3% mortality rate, despite having 49 cases. In states, which crossed the 1,000 cases mark, Madhya Pradesh has the highest mortality rate of 5.02%.

Mortality rate of states with most number of cases:


Maharashtra: 4.75%
Delhi: 2.13%
Gujarat: 4.27%
Rajasthan: 1.42%

Among states with deaths, Kerala has lowest mortality rate of 0.7%. States like Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh recorded zero deaths, despite having 46 and 36 cases respective. More than 2.6 mln people are infected and nearly 190,000 died due COVID-19 pandemic across the world.
