Trump’s list: 289 accomplishments in just 20 months, ‘relentless’ promise-keeping

The Trump administration’s often overlooked list of achievements has surpassed those of former President Ronald Reagan at this time and more than doubled since the last tally of accomplishments after his first year in office, giving President Trump a solid platform to run for re-election on.

As Trump nears the two-year mark of his historic election and conducts political rallies around the country, during which he talks up his wins in hopes it will energize Republican voters, the administration has counted up 289 accomplishments in 18 categories, capped by the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

They include 173 major wins, such as adding more than 4 million jobs, and another 116 smaller victories, some with outsize importance, such as the 83 percent one-year increase in arrests of MS-13 gang members.

Trump slashes $16.4B of regulations, 70 percent of agencies cut

Under orders to slash regulations, 11 of 16 top federal agencies went on a cutting frenzy last year, eliminating old rules, many from the Obama era, for a total saving to taxpayers and business of $7.8 billion.

In a key sign of the new trend, nearly a third of the administration’s regulatory actions were actually moves to cut rules and red tape, according to a calendar year end review from American Action Forum.

Trump Readies Push to Slash Regulations

“Senior White House and Trump administration officials are planning to launch a sweeping effort in the coming days to repeal or suspend federal regulations affecting businesses, with the expected executive action seen by advisers as a way to boost an economy facing its worst shock in generations,” the Washington Post reports.

“The White House-driven initiative is expected to center on suspending federal regulations for small businesses and expanding an existing administration program that requires agencies to revoke two regulations for every new one they issue.”

The post-pandemic question: when this ends, how do we get our country back?

Speaking to the nation for the 25th consecutive morning today, Justin Trudeau officially introduced Canadians to the "new normal" — a prolonged period of uncertainty, economic sacrifices and restrictions meant to at least limit the toll of a disease that might still kill thousands.

Though we entered this new reality nearly a month ago, the depth and extent of it came fully into view this morning. Our relative success in navigating the "new normal" will be measured by how quickly we can return to something like the old normal, and how much pain we might endure on the way to getting there.

Trudeau says he intends to wear mask on Parliament Hill

Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer says Canadians should wear non-medical masks as an added layer of protection when physical distancing is not possible to help reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Dr. Theresa Tam said Wednesday that a federal, provincial and territorial special advisory committee comprised of chief medical officers from across the country are issuing the recommendation.

Are Canadian Conservatives actually conservative?

What governing vision does the Conservative Party of Canada offer Canadians this election?

This is a fundamental question that the party has not yet answered. In a recent column, pundit Andrew Coyne wrote:

“Conservatism in Canada now amounts to, at best, opportunism. They are in favour of whatever is unassailably popular, opposed to whatever is indefensibly unpopular … just so long as no one asks them to take a risk, a stand, or a decision, to … explain how it differs from the left’s.”
