Storm Sally battered the Florida-Alabama line early on September 16 with unrelenting winds of up to 168kph.

However, the slow-moving storm and torrential rains weakened after it made landfall at 4.45am.

By Wednesday evening, Sally was downgraded into a depression with 56kph sustained winds.

According to mayor Tony Kennon, the storm killed one person in Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Category 2 hurricane brought down part of the Bay Bridge in Pensacola, Florida with a loose barge.

Weather experts have said rainfall in some areas was up to 90cm.
