We hear a lot about Sedition in the news and the frequency with which the Government uses it (both past and present) But what is Sedition and why do parties in power love it so much? Why was this British Era law not thrown into the dustbin of antiquated laws for so long?

The Sedition Law in India was deliberately kept very open ended by the British - so that any voice of dissent could be easily crushed - today our political class carries on that glorious tradition by slapping sedition cases left right and centre - be it Kanhaiya Kumar, Jamia students, CAA Protestors or even poor tribal villagers - struggling for their land rights. (despite the fact that actual conviction rates are at a dismal low)
