Scientists claim to draw electricity from water droplets

But researchers from the University of Hong Kong claim they have a solution: A droplet-based electricity generator (DEG) along with a field-effect transistor (FET). It has high energy-conversion efficiency and power density. And can generate 140 volts — enough to light up 100 small light-emitting diodes briefly. The FET has aluminium and indium tin oxide electrodes with PTFE coating. PTFE — Polytetrafluoroethylene — allows electrodes in a closed-loop to generate uninterrupted power. DEGs can be used wherever the liquid is in contact with something solid — From rooftops to umbrellas, the researchers said.
