I will tell you that I was flying on a plane and started talking to this guy about guns. And the topic of handgun protection came up. I said that I have a .454 Casull for protection against Griz. He tells me that he was attacked by a grizzly bear while Elk hunting with his bow in Idaho. I'm think that this guy is full of it. He tells me that a mamma griz came at him and started mauling on his arm. He said that he shot the mamma grizzly with 5 shots from a .44 magnum. He said the bear released him and took off. I'm thinking what BS. So the guy rolls up his sleeve to show me his left arm. And it was all scared up like a bear mauled on it. When I got off the plane, I googled to verify his story and sure as shit, it came up. The story tells of a bow hunter in Idaho getting mauled by a Grizzly mother on the left arm. The hunter shot the bear with 5 shots point blank into the grizzly with a .44 magnum. The rangers never found blood or the bear. Which the guy also stated. So as a result my .4545 Casull is now my backup and I bought a 45-70 lever action Henry as my Grizzly protection gun. Overkill??? Maybe, but I like living.
