Speaking of Ruger platforms such as these has me wondering what you think of the Mini-14 for people new to firearms that are searching for a home defense carbine/rifle.
Any thoughts you’d like to share?

I have never shot the Mini 14. I do know that it is more expensive and not as flexible as an AR-15. On the surface it does not seem to offer any advantages over an AR-15. So if I could get one for $400, perhaps I would say what the hell let's get it, but not for the money that they're asking for.

@Pocono Tactical: Thanks for your feedback. I like the open top Garand action of the Mini-14 for beginners, similar to the AK manual of arms which has proven to allow conscript armies to Quickly get familiar with the rifle. I also believe the AR 15 platform to be superior to the Mini design limitations.
