The Idahoan presents the so-called "Baptist Edition" of the folk song "Ghost Riders in the Sky."

Lyrics:

An old cowpoke went ridin’ out one dark and windy day,
Upon a hill he rested as he went along his way,
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed steers he saw,
Stampeding through the ragged skies, and up a cloudy draw.

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel,
Their horns were black and shiny, and their hot breath he could feel,
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky,
For he saw the riders coming hard and heard their mournful cry.

Yippee-I-oh, Yippee-I-ay,
Ghost riders in the sky!

Their faces gaunt their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat,
They're riding hard to catch that herd but they ain't caught ‘em yet;
They've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky,
On horses snorting fire, o’er the barren wastes they fly.

As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name,
If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride,
A-trying to catch this devil herd across these endless skies.

Yippee-I-oh, Yippee-I-ay,
Ghost riders in the sky!

Well the old cowpoke repented that dark and windy day,
He knelt upon the hilltop, and he was heard to say,
“Oh God have mercy on my soul—a foolish man I’ve been,
I’ve wandered from the way of truth, and lived a life of sin.”

“But, Lord, I’ve heard how Jesus came to save lost souls like me,
So if you’ve got room for one more hand, from sin please set me free,”
From that day on there was a change that no one could deny,
The cowpoke showed a joy and strength that never seemed to die.

‘Til some twenty years on down the line, he was caught in a stampede,
And the plunging hooves of frightened steers his soul from body freed,
So now he rides with Jesus o’re green hills beyond the sky,
Where there’s rest for all the weary, where men no more shall die.

Yippee-I-oh, Yippee-I-ay,
He’s home beyond the sky!
