Boom or bust? Is the Remington R51 Gen 2 with many improvements added slated for greatness? Infield testing of the R51 showed it to be reliable and accurate, even in the cold. But the R51 still possesses some oddities like a full metal frame with tiny grip panels, grip safety, internal hammer [not striker fired] design, Buck Rogers looks, a tedious field strip, a hesitation locked action, and an odd trigger. Maybe many will make the revamped R51 their premier carry gun and it will connect with the gun buyers of America. I am doubtful however, especially after shooting the R51 in extended sessions. I say here it will flop and will contribute to Remingtons continued failure to make new and interesting designs. It was not as enjoyable for me in comparison to its many established competitors (G43, Shield, LC9S, PF9, P938, XDS, PPS) and I would never buy one. Maybe coming out with the old style original R51 would have done it for me instead!
