In this episode, the Idahoan constructs an open-pit forge, and demonstrates how it can be used to melt aluminum for casting and heat up steel for smithing.

DISCLAIMER: Careless use of fire in any manner can result in serious injury, property damage, and even death. A forge like the one shown in this video gets MUCH hotter than an ordinary camp fire. Airborne embers from the fire or droplets of slag or molten metal will cause burns if they land on flesh, and can start fires if they land on combustable material. Outdoor fires are often regulated, and may require a permit in certain areas, or may be prohibited at certain times of the year. Your safety is YOUR responsibility. Do not attempt to reproduce anything shown in this video unless you can do so safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
