LVMPD Sheriff Joseph Lombardo provides initial details on two shooting incidents that occurred in Las Vegas on June 1st, 2020. The first incident occurred in a crowded protest area near the Circus Circus hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. In the course of his duties to safely manage the crowd of protesters, an LVMPD officer was shot and gravely wounded. The attacker was subsequently located and arrested by LVMPD. The second incident happened in the Downtown area, near the federal courthouse, where a heavily armed individual with body armor made a threatening move that resulted in an LVMPD officer firing at the subject who was subsequently pronounced deceased.
