What To Do If An Airline Won’t Refund Your Cancelled Flight

If you are having trouble getting a refund from the airlines, you’re not alone. The number one question we’re hearing from readers is “what should I do about my trip?”, but “how can I get a refund when the airline is offering me a voucher?” is a close number two.

To be fair, the airlines are being crushed from all sides. Amadeus, the software responsible for airline reservations, has processed over 2.5 million air ticket reacommodations (which includes changes and cancellations) per day due to COVID-19—a whopping 1,600% increase over normal.

As meat plants slow, U.S. will help growers kill livestock

Producers have warned since mid-March of a potentially ruinous backup on the farm of cattle and hogs because of a slowdown at slaughter plants.

The government offered to help livestock producers locate contractors skilled in killing herds or flocks of animals and to provide cost-share funding for their disposal because the coronavirus pandemic has shut down packing plants and reduced consumer demand. The National Pork Board held a webinar on Sunday that discussed step by step “emergency depopulation and disposal” of hogs.

82% of Canada’s COVID-19 deaths have been in long-term care, new data reveals

New data reveals the overwhelming toll on elderly Canadians in long-term care during the COVID-19 outbreak, showing they make up 82 per cent of all deaths.

The National Institute on Aging says that as of May 6, 3,436 residents and six staff members of long term care settings had died of COVID-19, representing 82 per cent of the 4,167 deaths reported as of Wednesday.

Dr. Samir Sinha, research director at the institute, says it is a staggering figure, given the roughly 400,000 residents living in care homes represent just one per cent of Canada’s population.

And it is a much higher figure than was indicated in a study released days ago by the International Long-Term Care Policy Network.

It said people in long-term care accounted for 62 per cent of Canada’s COVID-19 deaths. It also found Canada has the highest proportion of deaths from COVID-19 in long term care settings among 14 countries.
