M4A3E8 Tank

A new season and a new look at the Sherman tank proudly on display at the Wolcott, Ct. American Legion. We're up on a hill, so even in the summer it's STILL windy- but this beautiful machine deserves another look!

The "Easy Eight" was the final sum of upgrades to the M4 medium tank by the American military. Additional armor, a new suspension, wider tracks, and most importantly-a new cannon. The 76mm gun can be thought of as a magnum version of the earlier 75- it offered on average an extra inch of armor penetration. With HVAP ammunition it could penetrate the front mantlet of a German Panther at 1,000 yards.
