Some kinda' good is better than no good at all. And sadly that's exactly what many people do everyday. In most cases, it's not intentional. They are often distracted with things that don't really matter. Visiting a graveyard in quiet contemplation is time well spent as you consider the many good people who have come before you and lived much as you do now. That perspective, that understanding can set the foundation of us investing our time more wisely and making things better. I don't have all the answers but there is truth in this Nutnfancy Philosophy vid that may help you find some real joy in your life. Kinda' like how a selfish, self-centered life is a miserable one. At some point or another we probably all experience this. We have to re-set ourselves and concentrate on what matters. Thinking outwardly about others and acting in a way that helps and serves them will bring happiness; it is time proven. When we lose ourselves in this service, either to our fellowman, our families, or our animals we care for, a certain meaning will descend on your life which clarifies purpose and capabilities. Doing "Some kinda' Good" doesn't have to be dramatic. While I advocate that we continue to be good sheepdogs and watchdogs in society, those opportunities for service are rare (which is a good thing really). And yet daily we are given a myriad of chances to positively impact others. Do something little everyday that is good. I advocate that we are gracious with others and seek to make their lives easier and happier. Along with that we should pay special attention to our families, whatever they are. Forgive faults, forgive ourselves for past mistakes, move on, and be better in family roles. The broken home or "dysfunctional" family is the norm these days but many, including me, have moved beyond that to create their own happier families. No family is perfect and smooth sailing; rough spots will always arise. But we can make our lives easier, more peaceful. Simple acts of service like washing the dishes, mowing the yard, and cleaning up the "big mess" speak volumes especially when such service is rendered without any expectation at all. One of the key truths of success in your families is you forget about yourself and think about them. Doing these random acts of kindness to strangers is also encouraged. This attitude should extend to our animals as well that we've taken into our lives; we strive to deliver a high quality of life and joy to our pets (which are actually part of our family as well). In our quest to do good I ask you also to consider the earth will live on it; not in an extremist-environmental way but in practical terms. We should our best in passing on to future generations an earth that is clean and still beautiful. We are nothing more than temporary guardians. Watch over our wild places and keep them wild as they are the very stage where we can achieve adventure, solitude, and great family and friend memories. You may also be inclined to underestimate your effect in others but that is false vision. In accomplishing "Some Kinda' Good" (rather than no good) you will be surprised and joyful with its results. Likewise if we think only of ourselves and lambast others that get in the way, pursue glory at all costs, we can find ourselves regretting our actions and reaping the just rewards of such a life. In the end, what really matters then? What will others say of us when we die? Will we be missed or will our passing go unnoticed and maybe even celebrated? Each day you make those choices. Invest your days in that which matters and be an agent for good: a good brother, a good friend, a good wife, husband, grandfather, mother, etc. In this there is happiness. If I want the world to be a better place, it's starts with me. ///////////////////////////// Great Music from a great TNPr, used with specific permission: www.youtube.com/user/bryanisms
