A Canadian Army Reserve member gets to fire a magazine out of a German MP-40 9mm sub-machine gun. The MP-40 was introduced to the German army as an evolution of the previous MP-38. Often mistakenly called the "Schmeisser" this SMG was designed by Heinrich Vollmer, and was advanced in design for the day having a folding stock, pistol grip and a plastic stock/housing between the magazine and pistol grip.

This particular MP-40 has a local connection, it belonged for many years to a local police officer who used to bring it to the range in the 1980's when I had the opportunity to fire it. After his passing the gun was sold to the museum who now owns it.

Note that this firearm belongs to a federally licensed museum. The museum is authorized under their license conditions to possess the firearm in it's live condition, with original capacity magazines, and they are also also authorized to conduct demonstration firings, which is why the rifle was at the range following an inter-service shoot with the Army, Navy, RCMP and Provincial Rifle Association.
