The French army on Friday October 8 2010, released footage of intense fighting in the Tagab Valley in Afghanistan, where coalition and Afghan forces are battling militants.

The army did not provide many details, but said the footage was shot from October 1 and that the action was part of Operation Promising Star.

On Thursday (October 7), a German soldier was killed and six were wounded in a suicide bomb attack in northern Baghlan province, the German Defence Ministry said. Two of the wounded were in a serious condition.

Forty-nine French soldiers have been killed in violence or accidents in Afghanistan since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion, from a total of 2,133 foreign soldiers killed.
