(Translated from Spanish): The intense rains in recent days caused the El Limón river to overflow this Wednesday in the state of Aragua, located in the north-central part of Venezuela .

In a television broadcast, the questioned President Nicolás Maduro ordered the operational strategic commander and the machinery of Barrio Adentro, the government program of free health in the popular sectors, to attend to the affected people in that entity. He also stressed that so far only material damage has been recorded.

For his part, the governor of Aragua, Rodolfo Marco Torres, of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, confirmed that for now there are no deaths, although shops and homes have suffered damage. Marco Torres did not specify the amount or offer an estimate of the losses, and assured that all security agencies are deployed in the area and that they are in contact with the affected communities.

Torres also assured that rainfall has already dropped. In this sense, she urged citizens to stay at home and take measures to avoid contagion.

Meanwhile, the deputy of the National Assembly Adriana Pichardo, from the opposition Popular Voluntad, recalled that the same river overflowed in 1987 and left dozens of families affected. She asked the communities in the south of Maracay, the state capital, for caution and recommended that they keep children and the elderly in safety.
