An Italian coast guard captured dramatic images of a burning yacht sinking off the Sardinia coast.

The 50-metre vessel was heading from Capri to Sardinia when a fire broke out on board.

Officials say 17 people had to be rescued from the boat on August 25 but everyone had safely abandoned the ship when help arrived.

Two coast guard boats and a helicopter were involved in the rescue operation.
