Matt Hancock has said the UK will be increasing the time those with symptoms of the virus must self isolate from 7 days to 10 days as fears rise that a second wave of COVID-19 is hitting the UK and Europe.

Boris Johnson has warned of a second wave of coronavirus hitting Britain in the next few weeks and urged Brits to follow government guidelines to slow the spread of the virus. The number of cases has creeped up in the UK in July, with research from Cambridge University showing 4 out of 7 English regions have seen an increase in virus cases. Many parts of the country are also seeing the R rate, or rate of infection increase to almost 1, meaning the virus is spreading in those areas. The south west’s R rate is now 1.04 whilst the south east’s is 1.02. However London, the north east, Yorkshire and the east of England all sit around 0.9. The Midlands has the lowest rate of infection in England, at 0.78.
