California Mask Laws - Lenore Zann Upset
California county threatens $1,000 fine for not wearing face masks in public
Residents of one California county have been ordered to wear masks in public to contain the spread of COVID-19 — or face a $1,000 fine.
“Failed compliance could eventually lead to a fine,” said Riverside County spokesperson Brooke Frederico, according to news station KCBS.
Frederico said the tough mandate, which went into effect Sunday at midnight, was aimed at slowing the spread of the highly contagious virus in the county, about 60 miles east of Los Angeles, and beyond.
“It’s about saving lives so that we can stop or slow the spread of the disease,” Frederico said.
Nova Scotia MP speaks out on string of abusive calls, veiled threats
Lenore Zann says she received a barrage of hate since advocating for increased gun control
A Liberal member of Parliament says she is installing a home security system in response to abusive online and telephone comments received after she advocated for increased gun control and a feminist analysis of the Nova Scotia mass shooting.
Lenore Zann said she noticed an increase in the vitriol after she supported her government's introduction of a ban of many assault-style guns and joined a call for a probe into the role hatred of women played in the April 18-19 shootings that claimed 22 lives.
Zann's part-time constituency assistant, Darlene Blair, says after the MP supported the gun ban, there was a steady flow of calls through May referring to the MP for Cumberland-Colchester with "unkind, vile, disgusting" language that on at least 15 occasions specifically targeted her gender.
'Morning Joe' Speculates Trump May Quit Before He Gets Fired
President Donald Trump hates being thought of as a loser, but maybe he wouldn’t mind being known as a quitter.
That’s what “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough wondered on Friday in light of the president’s recent racially charged rallies and his administration’s latest attempt to overturn the Affordable Care Act.
It left Scarborough wondering: “Does this guy want to be elected president of the United States? Does he really want to be there?”
Black Lives Matter leader calls for defunding police: 'Black people do not trust politicians'
Black Lives Matter activist Hawk Newsome called for defunding police in the U.S., suggesting a different approach to combatting crime and expressing despair over the state of American politics when it comes to the African-American community.
Newsome told "Fox News Sunday" that both parties have failed black people in the U.S. by catering more to corporations than people's problems and not taking the appropriate position on reducing crime.
It's time to take a 'leap of faith' and test basic income in Canada, says senator
There's no time like a pandemic to test out universal basic income in Canada, says Sen. Yuen Pau Woo.
Woo, a B.C. senator and head of the Independent Senators' group, recently asked the Parliamentary Budget Office to analyze the potential cost of providing a basic income to all Canadians for six months.
The PBO says the project could cost anywhere from $47.5 billion to $98 billion, depending how much the government claws back payments to people who earn other income.
