Barbados considers removing Queen as head of state

The Prime Minister of Barbados recently announced “the time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind” flagging the possibility of severing political ties with the Commonwealth.

Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh used to regularly visit the island nation, a popular destination for the rich and famous.

Barbados is one of 15 entities around the globe where the Queen remains the head of state.
